To support our Mission, we have continued to help the two local Law Enforcement Agencies on Camano Island by assisting with needs of our citizens on Camano Island. Some of our Programs and Activities include:
Shop With a Cop
This Holiday Season activity was initiated in 2017. The Foundation provides for elementary school students from Camano Island. to "shop with a cop". Students shopped with a Deputy and one of their parents. This has proven to a wonderful Community Outreach Program.
Cash Cards
Deputies and Park Rangers have ‘cash’ cards for in need persons.
Each officer at the Camano Precinct and State Park Rangers have available for them a cash card(s) to use when they encounter a citizen who needs help in an emergency or due to distress of family separation or even a stranded tourist to the Island. The cash cards are used to provide fuel, food and/or overnight accommodations. These cash cards allow officers to devote more time doing their regular duty of patrolling the streets and neighborhoods and protecting the citizens of this Island as opposed to managing the stranded tourist and distressed family members.
The deputies and park ranger each have the opportunity to shop with a student from the two Camano Island Elementary schools.
Be Safe Be Visible
These are the highly visible vest handed out to bikers and walkers to keep them visible and safe while on the roads of the island.
Deputies and Citizens Patrol members hand out the vest when they spot someone biking or walking on the roadways.
This program was started in 2018 thanks to Bill and Cindy Richards who helped purchase 120 initial vests.
Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner
The Appreciation Dinner has been hosted by Randy and Marla Heagle of Arrowhead Ranch Foundation and CLESF to honor officers and their spouses of the Camano (E-10) Precinct Deputies, Stanwood Police and State Park Rangers as well as Sheriff and Chiefs from Coupeville. The purpose is to give a huge thank you to them for their service to the community. Past entertainment for guests has been a stand-up comedian in the relaxed atmosphere of Arrowhead Ranch along with scrumptious food!
Potluck
Educational Forums
Firearms Safety
The Foundation has sponsored many gun safety forums since 2015.
Each safety course on firearms includes how to handle (load and unload), transport (firearms and ammunitions) and the basics of ownership requirements. The course is compliant with Washington State laws and local regulations.
Human Trafficking
The forum on human trafficking has seen a large turnout and audience each time the presentation is held.
The forum held in February of 2023 had three instructors; a former FBI agent, a Homeland Security agent, and local entrepreneur who works as an advocate and resource for the victims.
Situational Awareness
Holding Women's Self Defense & Personal Safety for Women forums has been well attended.
Each forum has had an audience of 30 to 50 participants
Cyber Security
A forum on Cyber Security and Identity Theft for Seniors was jointly sponsored by Camano Center. Over 75 senior attendees made this one of the most well received and attended forms CLESF has held.
Drug Awareness
Intended for parents of school children on the island, CLESF held a forum focused on educating people, students, family members, and friends about drugs. A local Camano Island Deputy presented on how drugs work, the dangers of such drugs and, what to look for in identifying problems or concerns. The forum was focused on education and not the enforcement of drug laws.
Public Events
CLESF volunteers continue to participate in community events in their effort to reach out to the public and inform them of CLESF activities.
Some of those community events include:
Camano National Night Out
Community Center Car Show
Fire Department Open Houses
Chamber of Commerce Events
To support the Mission, we have continued to help the two local Law Enforcement Agencies on Camano Island by assisting with needs that cannot be fulfilled within their own their department budgets.
What have we provided for our citizens of Camano Island?
Deputies and park rangers requested medical bags and supplies (special Ops Military Grade Field Medical Pack) that will allow them to give first aid to victims of automobile accidents ranging from cuts and bruises to more severe life saving aid as well as incidents encountered during calls of service. The Foundation acquired 13 med bags (10 for deputies and 3 for rangers).
Gun safe for the Camano Sheriff’s Precinct
Purchasing of uniforms for the Camano Sheriff’s Citizen Patrol volunteers
E10 deputies approached the Foundation with a request to replace their office chairs which were breaking and unsafe to sit on. The Foundation purchased six new chairs which replaced the broken chairs.

Sheriff Citizen Patrol
The Sheriff's Citizen Patrol have been patrolling Camano Island and assisting deputies for more than 25 years. These volunteers are not law enforcement officers but assist the Island County Sheriff's Office by conducting vacation house checks, processing concealed weapons permits, and delivering interoffice materials between Camano and Whidbey Islands.
CLESF is proud to support the Sheriff's Citizen Patrol by providing support for uniforms, office supplies and other needs as they arise.
