BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPLICATION AND POSITION DESCRIPTION

Overview The Camano Law Enforcement Support Foundation governs the overall execution of the organization’s mission. Principally, the Board manages organizational finances and sets long term priorities for programs, including the development of fundraising and program services. This would be considered a ‘working” type of board.  Not only are members responsible for the day-to-day management of the organization, they also contribute the educational, management, legal, and financial skills needed to ensure long term organizational stability and ensure year-to-year operations for the CLESF mission.  Members are also the on-the-ground workers in the delivery of its program services and fundraising activities.  They sell raffle tickets and act as table servers for banquets and potlucks!

The Board of Trustees terms are for three years with a third of the membership up for re-election each year.

Board Member responsibilities include attendance at regular board meetings as well as active electronic conversations as part of Board committees. Currently CLESF holds its membership meetings on the first Wednesday of the month in the evening.  In some years the committees have held additional meetings beyond the regular board meeting evenings.  Board members also hold a fiduciary responsibility for management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Annual Meeting is held the first week in March.

With the many fundraisers held throughout the year, it is expected that the Board of Trustees participate in a majority of those.  As with any nonprofit Board, members are often solicited for cash or in-kind donations.  Board members should maintain an active membership status during their term.

Declaration of Candidacy Board positions require a time and energy commitment that should not be underestimated. Candidates are urged to consider personal priorities as well as the ways to contribute to the development of the organization.
